This tutorial was created on June 12, 2005 and is the property of Bubbles' Psp.  Please do not remove this tutorial, in part or in whole, from my website unless you have permission from me to do so.

This tutorial was created using Psp Version 8 but can be created using other versions of Psp with a few modifications.

For this tutorial you will need the following:

Paint Shop Pro (Trial Version)

Alien Skin Splat (30 day demo) Note:  this filter is optional; if you don't want to download the splat filter, you can use the cross squares tube that I provided in the supplies)

Okay, let's get started on our tag!

1.  Open your shoe tubes and graphic in Psp; minimize them to your Psp workspace.  Open your BLM_square tube and go to Shift+D to make a copy of your tube; close out the original as we will be working with the copy of the tube.

2.  With your squares tube being the active image, go to Image/Canvas Size 600w x 600h; click once on the center arrow and then click okay.

This step is for those using the Splat filter.

3.  Layers/Duplicate.  X out (hide) the duplicated layer and make the original tube layer the active layer.  Effects/Plugin Filters/Alien Skin Splat/Patchwork.  Go to Settings and select Cross Stitch with a tile width of 7.

4.  Remove the X from your top tube layer and make this layer the active layer.  Image/resize by 93%; resize all layers is not checked; resize sample type is bicubic.  Rename this layer as solid squares.

Do these steps is you are using the cross stitch tube :

Make the cross stitch tube your active image.  You don't have to worry about making your image larger because I did this step for you.  Restore your BLM_squares tube and go to Edit/Copy; you can close out this tube now.  Go back to your cross stitch tube and go to Edit/Paste/Paste As New Layer.  Resize this layer by 93%; resize all layers is not checked; resize sample type is bicubic.  Rename this layer as solid squares.

Everyone follows the rest of these steps.

5.  The solid squares should be your top layer; make sure this is your active layer.  Activate your magic wand (tolerance 0 feather 0) and click inside your square at the left hand side of the tube (there's only one square on that side).  Selections/Modify/Expand by 3 pixels.  Layers/New Raster Layer.  Layers/Arrange/Move Down.  Do not deselect.

6.  Restore your shoe 3 tube and go to Edit/Copy; you can close out this tube now.  Make your squares tag image the active image and go to Edit/Paste/Paste Into Selection.  Selections/Select None.

7.  Make your solid squares layer the active layer; using your magic wand, click in the top right square and go to Selections/Modify/Expand by 3 pixels.  Add a new raster layer and go to Layers/Arrange/Move Down.  Restore your shoe 2 tube; Edit/Copy.  You can close out this tube now; go back to your squares tag image and Edit/Paste/Paste Into Selection.  Selections/Select None.

8.  Make your solid squares layer the active layer; using your magic wand, click in the bottom right square.  Selections/Modify/Expand by 3 pixels.  Layers/New Raster Layer.  Layers/Arrange/Move Down.  Activate your shoe 1 tube and go to Edit/Copy; you can close out this tube now.  Back to your squares tag image and go to Edit/Paste/Paste Into Selection.  Selections/Select None.

9.  One square left to fill, and that's your center square.  Make sure you are on the solid squares layer and, using your magic wand, click on the inside of your center square.  Selections/Modify/Expand by 3 pixels.  Layers/New Raster Layer; Layers/Arrange/Move Down.

10.  Restore your cssquarestag image and go to Edit/Copy; you can close out this image now.  Go back to your squares tag image and Edit/Paste/Paste Into Selection.  Selections/Select None.  Adjust/Sharpness/Sharpen.

NOTE:  There may be a couple of small gaps around the left square and top right square where the picture does not meet up evenly with the squares.  I just went to my clone tool, made sure my active layer was my picture layer, and filled in the gaps using the clone tool; can also use the paint brush to fill in these gaps.

11.  Layers/Merge/Merge Visible.  Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow using the settings shown below.

Vertical 1; Horizontal 1; Opacity 80; Blur 2; Color Black

12.  Click on your move tool and move your tag up some so you will have room for your text.  Layers/New Raster Layer.  For my text I used the following settings;

Font Feena Casual; Size 100; Foreground/Stroke color #434343; Background/Fill color #969696; Anti-alias checked; Bold checked; Floating

13.  I set my background/fill color to gradient using these settings:

Linear; Angle 150; Repeats 0

After I typed out my name on my tag, I went to the Splat filter once more using the same setting that I used on my frame and applied it to my text.  Then I applied a drop shadow effect using the settings in Step 11.

14.  When you have finished your text, go to Layers/Merge/Merge Visible.  Selections/Select All.  Selections/Float.  Image/Crop to Selection.  Resize if needed, merge all (flatten) your layers, and save in desired format.  And that's it :)
