This
tutorial created May 10, 2004 and is the
creation of Bubbles' Psp. Please do not
remove this tutorial in part or in whole
from this site, either to pass around in
emails or to add to another site. This
tutorial was created using Psp version
7. All other versions should be
compatible with this tutorial. You
will need the following for this
tutorial: Paint
Shop Pro (Trial Version) Toadies
Ommadawn Fantastic
Machines (Paint Engine) Simple
Filters Mask,
gold pattern, and graphic here The painting has the artist's name as Sara Moon; I don't know who the creator of the mask is; If anyone knows, please email me and give me the information
so that I can give credit to the creator. Thank you.
Okay,
let's get started on our frame! 1.
Open your graphic and mask in Psp.
Minimize the mask and goldfill pattern
on your Psp workspace. Shift+D to
make two (2) copies of your
graphic. Close out the original as
we will be working with the copies.
Minimize one of the copies of your
graphic to your workspace. 2.
Select a light/medium color from your
graphic and set it as your foreground
color. I'm using #E8CAA4.
Set your background color to white (#FFFFFF).
Now, still on your background color
palette, click on patterns and select
your goldfill pattern. Scale is
set at 100% Angle 0. 3.
Choose the selection tool from the tool
palette and set the Selection Type to
ellipse, feather 0, antialias
checked. Set your cursor in the
center of your image and draw an ellipse
around the main part of your
graphic. If you are using the
graphic I supplied, then your center
will be at 139,198.
Selections/Promote to Layer. 4.
Selections/Invert. Open your layer
palette and make sure your bkg layer,
not your promoted selection layer, is
the active layer. Now, restore
your minimized graphic. Effects/Plugin
Filters/Simple/Quick Tile.
Edit/Copy. You can close out this
graphic now as we won't need it any
longer. With your main graphic
being the active image, go to Edit/Paste
into Selection. 5.
Effects/Plugin Filters/Toadies/Ommadawn
using the settings below. 
Selections/Select
None. 6.
Grab your magic wand (tolerance 0
feather 0) and click on the black lines;
now, hit your delete key so that all the
black lines disappear but do not
deselect. Floodfill the selected
areas with your goldfill pattern.
Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow using the
settings below: Opacity
66; Blur 2.5; Vertical 1; Horizontal
1. Effects/ Sharpen/Sharpen.
Selections/Deselect. 
7.
Make your "promoted selection
layer" (top layer) your active
layer. Selections/Select
All. Selections/Float.
Selections/Modify/Expand by 2.
Layers/New Raster Layer.
Layers/Arrange/Move
Down. Floodfill the
new layer with your goldfill
pattern.
Selections/Modify/Contract by 3.
Hit the delete key.
Selections/Select None. Effects/3D
Effects/Inner Bevel using the settings
below.

Click on your "promoted selection
layer" and go to
Layers/Arrange/Move Down. Your
layer palette should be in this order
now: top
layer - gold oval frame; middle layer -
promoted selection; bottom layer -
background layer Layers/Merge/Merge
All/Flatten. 9.
Image/Add Borders 2 pixels symmetric
checked. Activate your magic wand
tool (tolerance 0 feather 0) and click
on your white border to select.
Floodfill the border with your goldfill
pattern. Effects/3D Effects/Inner
Bevel using the settings shown
below. Do not deselect.

Selections/Invert. Effects/3D
Effects/Cutout using the settings shown
below. Selections/Select None. Opacity
100 (shows 99, I goofed); Blur 18.8;
Vertical and Horizontal 0

Image/Add Borders/15 pixels symmetric
checked. Select your white border
with your magic wand. Floodfill
with your foreground color.
Effects/Texture Effects/Weave using the
settings shown below. Gap
Size 1; Width 1; Opacity 36; Fill Gaps
NOT checked; Weave color #B6553F (if you
are using a different graphic, select a
medium/dark color from your
graphic). Keep selected.

Effects/Texture Effects/Blinds using the
settings shown below. Width
5; Opacity 39; Color #B6553F (or color
from graphic); light from left/top
checked; Keep your border selected. 
13.
Effects/Artistic Effects/Topography
using these settings; do not deselect
your border. Width
50; Density 100; Angle 45; Color #FFFFFF

Effects/3D Effects/Cutout using the
settings shown below. Opacity
75; Blur 11.3; Vertical 0; Horizontal 0 Effects/Sharpen/Sharpen;
you can deselect your border now. 
15.
Image/Add Borders/2 pixels symmetric
checked. Click on the white border with
your magic wand to select; floodfill
with your goldfill pattern. Apply
inner bevel using settings shown
below. Selections/Deselect. 
16.
Image/Add Borders/20 pixels symmetric
checked. Grab your dropper tool
and select a medium/dark color from your
graphic and set it as your foreground
color; I'm using
#BB8D6B. Click on your
white border with your magic wand to
select; floodfill with your foreground
color. Effects/Plugin
Filters/Fantastic Machines/Paint Engine
using the settings shown below. Do
not deselect. 
17.
Layers/New Raster Layer. Floodfill
with your goldfill pattern.
Masks/New/From Image using the settings
shown below.

Masks/Delete. Merge into the
current layer? Yes.
Selections/Select All.
Selections/Float. Effects/3D
Effects/Drop Shadow using these
settings: Opacity
66; Blur 2.5; Vertical 1; Horizontal 1 Selections/Deselect.
Effects/Sharpen/Sharpen.
Layers/Duplicate.
Layers/Merge/Merge All (Flatten). 19.
Image/Add Borders /2 pixels symmetric
checked. Click on the border with
your magic wand to select and floodfill
with your goldfill pattern.
Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel using the
same settings as before (settings should
still be there).
Selections/Invert. Effects/3D
Effects/Cutout using the settings below. Opacity
75; Blur 11.3; Vertical 0; Horizontal 0 
20.
Image/Add Borders/25 pixels symmetric
checked. Click on your white
border with the magic wand to select;
floodfill your selected border with the
first color, the light/medium color,
that you selected from your
graphic. Effects/Plugin
Filters/Toadies/Ommadawn using the
settings below. Do
not deselect.

Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel using the
settings below.

This next step is optional;
Colors/Adjust/Hue/Saturation/Lightness
using the settings below. I like
using this because it seems to bring the
colors out more. Selections/Select
None. 
23.
Image/Add Borders/2 pixels symmetric
checked. Select your border with
the magic wand and floodfill it with
your goldfill pattern. Effects/3D
Effects/Inner Bevel using the Soft Edge
preset. 
24.
Add corners if desired; resize if
needed. Save in desired
format. And we are finally
finished with our frame; Whew, that was
