This tutorial created May 10, 2004 and is the creation of Bubbles' Psp. Please do not remove this tutorial in part or in whole from this site, either to pass around in emails or to add to another site.

This tutorial was created using Psp version 7.  All other versions should be compatible with this tutorial.

You will need the following for this tutorial:

Paint Shop Pro (Trial Version)

Toadies Ommadawn

Fantastic Machines (Paint Engine)

Simple Filters

Mask, gold pattern, and graphic here

The painting has the artist's name as Sara Moon; I don't know who the creator of the mask is; If anyone knows, please email me and give me the information so that I can give credit to the creator. Thank you.

Okay, let's get started on our frame!

1.  Open your graphic and mask in Psp.  Minimize the mask and goldfill pattern on your Psp workspace.  Shift+D to make two (2) copies of your graphic.  Close out the original as we will be working with the copies. Minimize one of the copies of your graphic to your workspace.

2.  Select a light/medium color from your graphic and set it as your foreground color.  I'm using #E8CAA4.  Set your background color to white (#FFFFFF).  Now, still on your background color palette, click on patterns and select your goldfill pattern.  Scale is set at 100% Angle 0.

3.  Choose the selection tool from the tool palette and set the Selection Type to ellipse, feather 0, antialias checked.  Set your cursor in the center of your image and draw an ellipse around the main part of your graphic.  If you are using the graphic I supplied, then your center will be at 139,198.  Selections/Promote to Layer.

4.  Selections/Invert.  Open your layer palette and make sure your bkg layer, not your promoted selection layer, is the active layer.  Now, restore your minimized graphic.  Effects/Plugin Filters/Simple/Quick Tile.  Edit/Copy.  You can close out this graphic now as we won't need it any longer.  With your main graphic being the active image, go to Edit/Paste into Selection.

5.  Effects/Plugin Filters/Toadies/Ommadawn using the settings below.

Selections/Select None.

6.  Grab your magic wand (tolerance 0 feather 0) and click on the black lines; now, hit your delete key so that all the black lines disappear but do not deselect.  Floodfill the selected areas with your goldfill pattern.  Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow using the settings below:

Opacity 66; Blur 2.5; Vertical 1; Horizontal 1.  Effects/ Sharpen/Sharpen.  Selections/Deselect.

7.  Make your "promoted selection layer" (top layer) your active layer.  Selections/Select All.  Selections/Float.  Selections/Modify/Expand by 2.  Layers/New Raster Layer.  Layers/Arrange/Move Down.    Floodfill the new layer with your goldfill pattern.  Selections/Modify/Contract by 3.  Hit the delete key.  Selections/Select None.  Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel using the settings below.

8.  Click on your "promoted selection layer" and go to Layers/Arrange/Move Down.  Your layer palette should be in this order now:

top layer - gold oval frame; middle layer - promoted selection; bottom  layer - background layer

Layers/Merge/Merge All/Flatten.

9.  Image/Add Borders 2 pixels symmetric checked.  Activate your magic wand tool (tolerance 0 feather 0) and click on your white border to select.  Floodfill the border with your goldfill pattern.  Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel using the settings shown below.  Do not deselect.

10.  Selections/Invert.  Effects/3D Effects/Cutout using the settings shown below.  Selections/Select None.

Opacity 100 (shows 99, I goofed); Blur 18.8; Vertical and Horizontal 0

Gap Size 1; Width 1; Opacity 36; Fill Gaps NOT checked; Weave color #B6553F (if you are using a different graphic, select a medium/dark color from your graphic).  Keep selected.

12.  Effects/Texture Effects/Blinds using the settings shown below.

Width 5; Opacity 39; Color #B6553F (or color from graphic); light from left/top checked; Keep your border selected.

13.  Effects/Artistic Effects/Topography using these settings; do not deselect your border.

Width 50; Density 100; Angle 45; Color #FFFFFF

14.  Effects/3D Effects/Cutout using the settings shown below.

Opacity 75; Blur 11.3; Vertical 0; Horizontal 0

Effects/Sharpen/Sharpen; you can deselect your border now.

15.  Image/Add Borders/2 pixels symmetric checked. Click on the white border with your magic wand to select; floodfill with your goldfill pattern.  Apply inner bevel using settings shown below.  Selections/Deselect.

16.  Image/Add Borders/20 pixels symmetric checked.  Grab your dropper tool and select a medium/dark color from your graphic and set it as your foreground color; I'm using #BB8D6B.    Click on your white border with your magic wand to select; floodfill with your foreground color.  Effects/Plugin Filters/Fantastic Machines/Paint Engine using the settings shown below.  Do not deselect.

17.  Layers/New Raster Layer.  Floodfill with your goldfill pattern.  Masks/New/From Image using the settings shown below.

18.  Masks/Delete.  Merge into the current layer?  Yes.  Selections/Select All.  Selections/Float.  Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow using these settings:

Selections/Deselect.  Effects/Sharpen/Sharpen.  Layers/Duplicate.  Layers/Merge/Merge All (Flatten).

19.  Image/Add Borders /2 pixels symmetric checked.  Click on the border with your magic wand to select and floodfill with your goldfill pattern.  Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel using the same settings as before (settings should still be there).  Selections/Invert.  Effects/3D Effects/Cutout using the settings below.

Opacity 75; Blur 11.3; Vertical 0; Horizontal 0

20.  Image/Add Borders/25 pixels symmetric checked.  Click on your white border with the magic wand to select; floodfill your selected border with the first color, the light/medium color, that you selected from your graphic.  Effects/Plugin Filters/Toadies/Ommadawn using the settings below.

Do not deselect.

21.  Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel using the settings below.

22.  This next step is optional; Colors/Adjust/Hue/Saturation/Lightness using the settings below.  I like using this because it seems to bring the colors out more.  Selections/Select None.

23.  Image/Add Borders/2 pixels symmetric checked.  Select your border with the magic wand and floodfill it with your goldfill pattern.  Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel using the Soft Edge preset.

24.  Add corners if desired; resize if needed.  Save in desired format.  And we are finally finished with our frame; Whew, that was a long one wasn't it lol?
